“As a developer and digital marketer for Ergodyne, Ian has had the opportunity to work on a multitude of diverse projects – his core responsibilities revolve around front-end development, email campaign management + automation, lead nurturing and measuring the ROI of his projects.

He works with both internal and external teams to execute the company’s online initiatives by identifying, recommending and building new solutions and features for Ergodyne.com. He also ensures the technical feasibility of UI/UX updates and cross-browser compatibility.

Ian has a BGS from the University of Kansas, and an Associate in Computer Programming from Saint Paul College. He loves to tinker with new tools and is constantly trying to automate any part of his work process that he can.”

Karen Hanson/Curb Crowser/Production Manager-Digital Artist

Karen Hanson is a Production Manager at Curb Crowser (brand and design agency). Her background includes Adventure Advertising, Lee Branding, Olson Ad Agency, and freelance design work. A true renaissance woman she has been involved with many facets of our creative scene in the twin cities. She battled in roller derby as a MN Roller Girl, you can find her on her Royal Enfield motorcylcle (with side car) cruising with the Moto-Lisas, and she has accumulated many degrees in design, print production, and photography. She is an incredible example of someone who has had the strength and bravery to truly carve her own path in this creative industry. You will be inspired by hearing her creative journey and the cool projects she has worked on in our Adobe Illustrator class. Hope to see you there!

Originally from Tawain Jessica has traveled and worked all over the world. She comes armed with unique perspectives and talent. She will share her creative journey, work, and process with us. Nick Farstad, the Creative Director for Redwing Shoe Company (for the last 20 years+), will be taking us on a “design excursion” from file to finished product in downtown Minneapolis. Space is limited, please RSVP if you can make it! This is what Nick had to say so far with the agenda:

“Ok. The agenda is still a little lose, but we will start downtown at ProLitho in the morning 8:30. They shoot digital photography, provide graphic design services and also pre-flight documents prior to sending to a printer. So, they get to see how all the parts of a printed document are made are assembled. Then at 11:30, we will need to travel to GMS in Edina to see how these documents are printed and assembled. They’ll get to see both digital and traditional offset printing. They’ll get to see how my staff does color proofing and final approval of printed materials. Then, if time allows, we could also potentially visit my video production house in Minneapolis – maybe at 2:30 – if they are interested…”

Rough time frame 8:30 am – 3 or 3:30 pm.

PIVOT // AIGA Portfolio Insider

For the past several years, the Student Design Collective has coordinated the Portfolio Insider event in conjunction with AIGA MN. Portfolio Insider brings students from design programs across the state to hear from distinguished professionals from the Minnesota design community – all on Minneapolis Community and Technical College’s campus!

 

Current MCTC students need not register; however non-MCTC students should register at the AIGA Event site. Registration is free!

Kjrsten graduated from MCTC’s web design program and has been working as a front-end developer since 2004. She is currently working at Clockwork Active Media Systems, and has worked for Target Corporation and Internet Broadcasting previously. A self-proclaimed tree hugger and softie for animals, she also has a keen interest in Massively Open Online Courses (MOOC). Kjrsten is a go-to person for well-articulated explanations and a master of complex designs.

For over a decade Jessica has worked as a designer and art director for product and packaging design, product branding, and retail display. She is a creative with backgrounds in production and retail merchandising. She provides exceptional design and consultancy for both domestic and overseas product development. Jessica is currently an art director and senior designer in packaging, consumer product design, and product development at Fin Studio.

Arielle is a Minneapolis-based designer who graduated from MCTC’s graphic design program. She has a focus on marketing principles, collaboration, and strategic thinking. Currently, she is a Senior UI Designer at Healthpartners. Previously, she worked for a small web agency and also as a marketing designer for The Nerdery, where she led their rebranding efforts. She has invaluable perspective as someone that came out of a print-focused program and moved towards an interactive and branding focus.


Bonnie Krahn

Bonnie is a motivated, creative, and highly qualified design and marketing professional with 15 years of distinguished performance, including nine years in the higher education industry. She freelances regularly from her Eau Claire, Wisconsin-based studio, working with clients on a wide variety of design and marketing communications projects, including branding and corporate identity, print, and web. Outside her freelance career, she is a full-time graphic artist and adjunct associate lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She has previously worked in both the commercial photography and printing industries. She received both her BFA and MBA degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Laura is a UX/UI and service designer that comes from a visual design background and has developed her expertise to include corporate identity design, user interface design, user experience design, and service design. Currently at Azul Seven, Laura contributes and leads efforts for intricate digital products from start to finish. In deep ethnographic research, she builds empathy to improve service experiences for customers and end users.


She has over four years of experience teaching and facilitating service design and innovation methodologies to executive teams locally and nationally. Sharing her passion for design with others continues to fuel her curiosity and spirit.
